Qatar University and ConocoPhillips Water Technology have signed a research agreement to develop a new desalination process based on membrane distillation.
The research agreement was entitled 'Evaluation of Membrane Distillation to Augment Water Production from Thermal Desalination Brines by Leveraging Low Grade Waste Heat'.
The project will include the QU Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering and the Global Water Sustainability Center.
ConocoPhillips will fund the project and the advisory and technical support will come from Qatar Electricity and Water (QEWC) and Kahramaa.
According to the agreement, QEWC will provide access to its facilities and Kahramaa will advise on the introduction of new water desalination technologies in Qatar.
