Severn Trent to supply ballast water treatment systems to Japan

10 October 2011

Severn Trent De Nora will provide its BALPURE ballast water treatment systems for new bulk carriers being constructed by Sasaki Shipbuilding in Japan for Toko Kaiun Kaisha.

Each of the skid-mounted BALPURE BP-500 systems is capable of treating ballast water flow rates of up to 500m3 per hour.

The BALPURE system is designed to use electrolytic disinfection technology and surpass IMO D-2 standards without any adverse effects on the environment or the vessel's ballast tanks.

The system's slipstream treatment approach will enable remote mounting away from the main ballast line and allow for normal efficiency in low-salinity and low-temperature water quality environments.
