SNC-Lavalin to develop industrial wastewater recycling plant in Qatar

Canada-based SNC-Lavalin has won a contract from Qatargas for developing a water recycling facility at the latter’s Laffan Refinery 2 plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.

Under the terms of the contract, SNC-Lavalin will be responsible for engineering, procurement, supply, construction and commissioning services for the proposed recycling plant.

Financial details of the contract have not been disclosed, works for which are expected to be completed in the initial quarter of 2017.

The recycling system for the plant is expected to reuse treated industrial wastewater produced at the Laffan Refineries 1 and 2.

The system will chiefly feature ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technologies with ancillary facilities.

The treated water will be recycled in order to make those suitable for use in the cooling and boiler feed water systems.

Laffan Refinery 2 project will have the capacity to process an additional 146 thousand barrels per day of condensate recovered from the North Field, once it is completed.

Production from the refinery is expected to double the capacity of the Laffan Refinery 1.

The global construction and engineering group SNC-Lavalin had been operating in Qatar since 1997.
