Sound Global to build Gucheng water treatment plant in China

Water treatment solution provider Sound Global has won the build, operate and transfer (BOT) contract to renovate and expand the Xingji water treatment plant and the water supply network in Gucheng County, Hebei Province, China.

Under the contract, the company will fund, construct and operate the plant, which can supply 60,000tpd of water.

Sound Global will invest RMB170m ($27.5m) in the project, which includes setting up a new plant and reconstruction and expansion of the water supply network.

The project will be carried out in two phases and it will supply 30,000tpd of water in the short-term.

The Gucheng plant will ensure water quality compliant with 106 standards for drinking water quality (GB5749-2006).

Once operational, it is expected to supply sufficient water for 300,000 residents in the Gucheng by 2030.

Sound Global chairman Wen Yibo said that the project is a significant part of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, which is planned to draw water from southern rivers and supply it to the dry north.

Planned for completion in 2050, it will eventually divert 44.8 billion cubic metres of water annually to population centres in the north.
