Suez Environnement to optimise water and waste management for Sanofi facilities

US based healthcare firm Sanofi has signed an agreement with French utility Suez Environnement to optimise water and waste management of its manufacturing sites in France and abroad.

The agreement entitles Suez to develop customised solutions for Sanofi for three years, and with an option for renewal.

The French firm will be responsible for improving the energy efficiency of the Sanofi facilities, by optimising the operation of water and waste treatment systems.

Suez will also put in efforts to better waste-to-energy performance of the sites.

It will enable Sanofi to conserve water by improving its water management, treatment and recycling processes at the production sites.

Works for two major projects in France have already been initiated under this agreement.

The first of the projects is aimed at upgrading the wastewater treatment station at Sanofi’s biochemicals site in Saint-Aubin-lès-Elbeuf (Seine-Maritime) to increase its capacity.

The second project will involve construction of a waste-to-energy and volatile organic compound treatment unit for Sanofi’s chemicals site in Sisteron (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

Sanofi chief executive officer Olivier Brandicourt said: "Managing the environmental impact of our industrial activities is a high-priority objective for Sanofi.

"This agreement with Suez Environnement will enable us to implement state-of-the-art technologies that will help make our water and waste management processes more eco-friendly."

Suez Environnement chief executive officer Louis Chaussade said: "Conserving resources, such as water, has become a fundamental issue for industrial companies and a key factor in their competitiveness.

"We are delighted with this agreement with Sanofi, which is in line with our strategy of supporting industrial companies in sustainably managing their resources."
