The Tibet autonomous region in China is planning to invest CNY380m ($59m) in the coming months to improve its farmland irrigation and water conservation infrastructure.
The projects will include modernising the facilities damaged by floods in addition to construction of rural flood-control and drought-resistant facilities.
According to the Water Resources Department of Tibet, the projects will also involve the setting up of farmland water conservation systems.
A total of 1,023 flood-damaged facilities will be rebuilt and and a 301km water canal will be dredged as part of the scheme.
On completion of the projects, the water storage capacity in the region will increase by 340,000m3, with 20km2 of soil-erosion areas brought under control.
The projects will also provide tap water access to additional 220,000 people in the Tibet region, reports China daily.
