The Upper Clark Fork Council (UCFC) has approved a plan for cleanup of the Clark Fork river in Montana, US.

According to the council, about $116m will be required for repair works between Butte and Milltown cities in the state.

The investment will be used for groundwater resources, terrestrial resources and aquatic resources in areas where the river and surrounding areas have been damaged by mining.

The cleanup will start in 2012 on receipt of approval from Montana State Governor Brain Schweitzer, reports NBC Montana.
