US Army Corps awards water contracts for HHD project

4 October 2011

The US Army Corps of Engineers has awarded two contracts worth $89m to Odebrecht Construction to replace four water control structures on Herbert Hoover Dike (HHD) near Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida, US.

Odebrecht Construction received a $47m contract to replace Culverts 1 and 1A in Glades County.

The company also received a $42m contract to replace Culverts 11 in Martin County and Culvert 16 in Palm Beach County.

The four water control structures provide irrigation and drainage to adjacent landowners.

The contracts are part of major rehabilitation efforts at the HHD to reduce the risk to nearby citizens through a system-wide approach.

The work will begin in November and be completed in the next three years.
