The US federal government will provide a $24.5m loan to Lonoke-White Public Water Authority (LWPWA) to build a new water treatment plant and transmission line in Arkansas.
The plant will enable the use of surface water instead of ground water and reduce the strain on aquifiers.
The Arkansas Natural Resources Commission has notified members of the LWPWA to reduce or eliminate well pumping before 2025.
Eight cities are expected to benefit from new water treatment plant, according to Kark 4 News.
