The US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) has released the draft environmental assessment for the Garibaldi and McCoy Canals water conservation project in California, US.
The assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact documents were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
The aim of the project is to reduce seepage loss in the Garibaldi and McCoy canals and to decrease operational spill into Merced River through Garibaldi Canal.
The project will increase operational efficiency by incorporating a supervisory control and data acquisition system and improve maintenance efficiency of the Merced Irrigation District distribution system.
USBR will also award Merced Irrigation District with a water conservation grant from the CALFED Bay-Delta programme to assist with the canal and system improvements.
