Veolia to deliver wastewater treatment solutions in Indonesia


French firm Veolia Water Technologies has entered a new partnership with Indonesia's Global Oleochemical Company for wastewater treatment.

Under the deal, Veolia will design and install a new wastewater treatment system integrated into a new greenfield oleochemical production plant in the country.

The wastewater plant will feature integrated proprietary wastewater solutions with an aim to address Indonesia's strict regulations for wastewater discharge.

The solutions include Veolia's Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system, and Biobed Advanced EGSB anaerobic and post-aerobic treatment technologies.

"The high-performance anaerobic reactor provides stability that helps maintain and produce granular sludge for improved waste treatment."

Global Oleochemical is a palm oil plantation company to produce palm-based edible oil and fat, along with downstream oleochemical production facilities.

The new greenfield oleochemical production plant will not only facilitate hydrogenation but also operational functions such as splitting, fracking and distilling of fatty alcohols and fatty acids.

It will also support production of finished palm-based products.

The Veolia Biobed Advanced EGSB technology allows high COD loading rate and improved COD removal, as well as low energy consumption.

Veolia Water Technologies Indonesia Industrial business development director Joko Triyono said: "As a leading provider of water and wastewater solutions, Veolia is well aware of the strict discharge limits imposed by local regulations across the markets that we serve.

"Indonesia's discharge regulations for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and oil content is capped at 250ppm and 15ppm respectively, so we recommended our Biobed Advanced EGSB technology, together with other complementary systems, to bring our client's expected wastewater COD and oil content of 5,500ppm and 10,000ppm down to ranges of less than 160ppm and 10ppm, below the Indonesian regulation standard."

The high-performance anaerobic reactor provides stability that helps maintain and produce granular sludge for improved waste treatment.

The anaerobic treatment process can also transform COD in the wastewater to biogas.
