Wadpa to build carryover dam on Haro River

26 October 2011

Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority is to construct a carryover dam upstream of the Khanpur Dam, which is located on the Haro River, Pakistan.

The new Dotara Dam will have a storage capacity of 100,000 acre-feet and will generate 200MW of electricity.

The dam will convert barren land in the village of Jabri into fertile agricultural land, control floods in downstream areas of the Khanpur Dam and ensure water storage for agricultural use.

The dam will also reduce silting and extend the life of the Khanpur Dam to over 100 years, reports The Express Tribune.

The Planning Commission is preparing a feasibility report for the project, which will be sent of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council for final approval.
