Xylem to provide treatment solution for water reclamation project in Singapore

US based water technology provider Xylem has won a contract to supply water treatment solution for the second Changi Water Reclamation Plant in Singapore.

Under the contract worth over $500,000, Xylem will deliver ultraviolet (UV) disinfection solutions for the facility which is based on Singapore Water Reclamation Study.

Titled as the NEWater, the study aims at producing high-quality reclaimed water from treated used water, which will be further purified. The treated used water will be passed through advanced membrane technologies and ultra-violet disinfection in order to turn it potable.

Xykem will provide its Wedeco Spektron 2000e UV disinfection solution for the reclamation facility that will also use microfiltration, reverse osmosis for producing ultra-clean and safe water for drinking purposes.

Operations at the second Changi Water Reclamation Plant have been scheduled for 2016.

UESH Holdings is the constructor for the facility, which is expected to provide an additional 228,000 tons (50 million gallons) of reclaimed water per day for the industrial sector and communities in east Singapore.

The facility is part of the city’s initiative to meet 55% of its water demands from reclaimed water by 2060.

At present, 30% of Singapore’s water needs are met with reused water.
