Veolia to supply discfilter system for wastewater treatment plant in Houston, Texas

Veolia Water Technologies has secured a contract to supply Hydrotech Discfilter system for tertiary treatment at 69th Street Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Houston, a city in Texas.

The current traveling bridge filters at the 69th Street WWTP are reaching end of their life.

The city officials reviewed filter replacement proposals, especially with regard to capital and long-term O&M costs, equipment efficiency.

Following the review process, Veolia’s Hydrotech Discfilter system was chosen by the officials.

The 440 MGD peak daily flow tertiary discfilter system can handle influent with a peak TSS of ≤ 100 mg/L,
and generate effluent of ≤ 10 mg/L on an average monthly.

Under the contract, the company will have to equip the
discfilter system into the basins of the existing bridge filters.

This system will feature 19 units, with each of it including filter chassis as well as media and a backwash pump.

As per the contract, Veolia will also offer spare parts, instrumentation and field services.

Houston Department of Public Works senior assistant director for wastewater operations Shannon Dunne said: “The innovative Hydrotech design provides treatment within a small footprint and allows us to use the existing filter structure while increasing our filter capacity.

“The system’s design is user-friendly and allows operation and maintenance to be efficient and easy to perform. We will also be able to save in electrical and operation costs because of the efficiency of the process.”
