Vinci and Acciona win €200m wastewater treatment plant contract in Vietnam

A 50/50 consortium of Vinci and Acciona has been awarded a €200m contract for a wastewater treatment facility in Vietnam.

Under the contract, the consortium consisting of Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Acciona Agua will be responsible for the design-build portion of first phase for the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant, in Ho Chi Minh City.

The design-build part of the contract is expected to be completed in five years, including the starting-up process and acceptance of works.

Vinci and Acciona will then operate and maintain the facility for an additional five years.

Of the total €200m amount, €170m is earmarked for the design-and-build contract and €30m for operation and maintenance.

The plant will treat wastewater from the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Basin which will be used by over million residents.

It will have a peak capacity of 34,000 cubic metres per hour with a connection to the city’s sewage system. The plant will feature a pumping station, biological treatment, disinfection, sludge treatment, odour treatment.

The project, which will hire up to 800 local labourers at peak periods, will be a key part of Ho Chi Minh City’s second environmental plan.

The new contract strengthens Vinci Construction’s presence in Vietnam, where the group is currently undertaking a design-build project for a 10km treated-water transfer pipeline that will deliver drinking water to the centre of Ho Chi Minh City.

On the other hand, Acciona said that the Ho Chi Minh City wastewater plant is the first contract obtained by any of its divisions in Vietnam, and it bolsters the company’s footprint in Southeast Asia.
