LG Sonic to make use of AI to predict algal blooms in water

LG Sonic has plans to make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance its software algorithm to predict algal blooms based on water quality data.

This algorithm can offer detailed information about the affect that algal bloom will have on the ecosystem of the water body as it reduces light penetration, depletes oxygen and releases toxins.

LG Sonic intends to implement the updated algorithm in water quality software, MPC-View.

The company’s water quality experts have been predicting algal blooms manually by analysing the water quality data along with remote sensing images and meteorological parameters.

Now the updated algorithm will be able to automatically forecast algal blooms based on the water quality data stored in the MPC-View software, which will receive data from MPC-Buoy.

A floating solar-powered system, MPC-Buoy combines real-time water quality monitoring and ultrasonic sound waves for effective control of algae.

The software could analyse water quality parameters with regard to phytoplankton dynamics such as chlorophyll-a, temperature, DO, pH, turbidity, and redox, all of which are important for the prediction of algal blooms.
