Abengoa to build intelligent supply and sewerage pipelines in Turkey

Sustainable technology solutions provider Abengoa has been chosen for a €35m project to develop an intelligent network of supply and sewerage pipelines to supply water and sanitation to around 500,000 people in the city of Denizli, Turkey.

Abengoa will carry out engineering, design and construction work for the project, under a turnkey EPC contract. It will construct the 250km supply, sanitation and drainage network as well as 30 wells and a Scada control system to optimise consumption and prevent energy and water loss. It will also renovate the existing deposits, pumping stations, bore holes and low-voltage system, along with operating and maintaining the facilities for a period of a year.

The company plans to complete the project within 17 months, and will not retain an interest in the constructed assets. The project is expected to create around 200 direct jobs and 100 indirect jobs during the construction phase.

Abengoa has constructed around 600km of large-bore pipelines in countries including Mexico, Chile, Peru, Spain and Angola. It is currently constructing the El Zapotillo aqueduct water project in Mexico, which will supply drinking water to a population of around 1.5 million.
