Passavant Energy to construct India wastewater treatment facilities

Drake & Scull International’s (DSI) German subsidiary Passavant Energy & Environment has secured two contracts worth a combined AED103m ($28m) for new wastewater treatment plants in India.

As part of the deal, the company will construct and operate two wastewater treatment plants for Amritsar Sewerage project in the state of Punjab.

The plants will process around 95 million litres a day (MLD) based on the activated sludge treatment process.

Passavant will be involved in the design and construction, including installing, testing, commissioning and five-year operation of the sewage treatment facilities.

Passavant Energy & Environment managing director Mazen Bachir said the water and wastewater treatment sector is presently witnessing a significant growth in India, as a result of a rise in demand for advanced wastewater treatment and waste to energy technologies.

"As pioneers of waste to energy plants in the Middle East, achieving zero liquid discharge at our waste treatment plant in Lebanon, we believe that we will be able to cater to the specific requirements of the region," Bachir added.

In India, Passavant is currently working on two projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat states. The projects are worth approximately AED50m ($13.6m) for the company. The firm is constructing a membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant for Ford India in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It will have a capacity to treat 4.5MLD. It will build an 80km sewer system in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.
