Xylem to provide pump technology for French wastewater treatment facility

Water technology company Xylem has secured a contract to provide its Flygt brand submersible pumps and monitoring and control technology for the Achères Seine Aval wastewater treatment plant situated near Paris.

The pumps and related accessories will be used to recirculate water and sludge-through basins and feed the facility’s biological tanks with wastewater.

Municipal authority Service Public de L’assainissement Francilien (SIAAP) is responsible for expanding the existing biofiltration units and building a new membrane treatment line in the facility.

The upgraded facility will maintain the water quality of the Seine River with increased treatment efficiency. The project is expected to be completed by 2021.

Consortium responsible for overseeing the development project director Gaël Brion said: "It is important for us to be able to provide our customers with energy efficient technologies and to reduce the operating costs of the plant. The majority of pumps we are using incorporate Flygt’s N-technology which prevents clogging and enables sustained high efficiency, helping to minimise energy consumption."

Europe’s largest wastewater treatment plant, Achères Seine Aval processes around 1.5 million cubic metres of wastewater a day.
