MWH Global wins contract for water treatment facility upgrades and expansion project

MWH Constructors has been chosen for expansion and upgrading the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility in the US.

The contract was offered by the town of Cary for the drinking water producing facility, which is jointly owned and operated by the two towns of Cary and Apex, North Carolina.

Six miles from Jordan Lake, the facility comes under the Cape Fear River basin. Post-expansion, pumping capacity of the plant will rise from 40 million gallons to 56 million gallons per day.

The project will see treatment units added for sediment removal, filtration and ozonisation.

In addition, upgrades will be carried out to the chemical feed systems, administrative building and laboratory of the facility.

MWH Constructors president Blair Lavoie said: "MWH is looking forward to partnering with the town of Cary on this important project.

"Not only will this plant expansion provide valuable drinking water for the community for many years, it will also provide jobs for the local economy over the next 24 months."

Construction is set to be completed in May 2016.
