Suez secures €67m worth water treatment contracts in India

Suez has been awarded six new municipal water and wastewater treatment contracts, totalling €67m, in India.

The contracts have been awarded by the Bangalore Water & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and the Public Health and Engineering Department of Rajasthan.

The three contracts, worth a total of €47m, with BWSSB will require Suez to build and operate two units of the TK Halli drinking water production plant, as well as the Kengeri wastewater treatment plant in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka state.

Suez will build and install a unit, which will be capable of producing 300 million litres of drinking water per day at the TK Halli plant. It will also improve an existing unit that also produces 300 million litres per day at the plant.

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-backed Kengeri wastewater treatment plant has the capacity to treat 60,000m³/day.

Upon completion of the construction of the plants, Suez will sign a €3m worth operations and maintenance contract for a period of seven years.

Suez will also be responsible to carry out leak detection activities in the 1,750km-long distribution network in the northern and eastern part of the city, using helium gas technology.

Under the €20m worth contracts with the Public Health Engineering Department of Rajasthan, Suez will design, build and operate 150 UCD units in three of the state’s regions – Bikaner, Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar.

The UCD is a complete, self-contained station for the production of drinking water.

The 150 units, with a production capacity of between 500 and 3,000 m³/day, will have the ability to treat all types of surface or underground water to produce drinking water to the standards of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Rajasthan government has awarded these contracts in a bid to extend water supplies to rural regions.
