United Water to use smart water technology solutions from Sensus in the US

US based water utility United Water (UW) has selected water technology solutions from Sensus to improve leak detection, non-revenue water and customer service in New York and New Jersey.

UW is a subsidiary of French utility Suez Environnement.

According to the deal, Sensus will deploy and manage smart communication network for UW, which will include the Sensus FlexNet system, 325,000 smart endpoints and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions.

The long range radio network offered by Sensus FlexNet system can serve as a secure two-way communications highway which will help the utility in monitoring water use.

The system facilitates on-demand meter reads, leak identification and water theft detection, which are the three common causes of non-revenue water.

Sensus global water marketing director Dan Pinney said: "The FlexNet communication system easily integrates with existing systems. That means lower network maintenance and operating costs associated with deploying an extensive network infrastructure."

United Water regulated business president David Stanton said: "Sensus technologies will help to secure increasingly scarce resources for the region, accelerate our trend of reducing water lost from distribution systems and improve the experience of our customers by providing greater billing accuracy."
