Sweco to upgrade Czech wastewater treatment plant

Sweden-based consulting group Sweco has secured an approximately €8.5m contract to upgrade and rebuild Prague’s central wastewater treatment plant.

The design and build contract was secured from the Contractor’s Consortium (the Association of WWTP Prague). Sweco will provide detail planning and prepare construction documents for the new plant.

The upgrading has been undertaken in response to European Union (EU) requirements regarding the capacity of wastewater treatment facilities.

The consulting firm’s contract will run until 2017, when the new plant is due for trial operation and then final completion.

Sweco Central and Eastern Europe president Bo Carlsson said that the company will increase the capacity of the Czech Republic’s largest wastewater treatment plant in a way that produces cleaner water for a large area even outside Prague.

"This is a notable contract that acknowledges Sweco’s market-leading expertise in this area," Carlsson added.

Sweco employs around 9,000 people in the Nordic region and Central and Eastern Europe. It has projects currently underway in around 80 countries globally.
