HK to Build Eco-friendly Sludge Plant

The Environmental Protection Department in Hong Kong has contracted Veolia Environnement to design, build and operate a sludge treatment facility at Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun.

Under the contract the company’s subsidiary VW-VES (HK) will equip the sludge treatment facility to treat 2,000t of sludge a day.

The facility will feature thermal incineration technology to meet the environmental protection requirements and emission standards.

The plant will be powered by thermal energy produced from incineration, which will be turned into electricity to meet the energy requirements of the facility.

On completion in 2013 the green facility will cut the volume of sludge by up to 90% and carbon emissions by about 260,000t a year.
