Peru Starts Pipeline Replacement Project

Peru has launched a $900m pipeline replacement project, which will replace ageing primary and secondary pipelines, in order to curb water losses.

The project will be executed in five phases and is expected to reduce 40% of water losses in the drinking water networks.

Peru’s water utility Sedapal will tender for the first phase, Lima Norte 1, for works in the capital’s northern Comas district in November 2010, according to waterworld.com.

The next phases will be carried out in the Independencia, San Juan de Lurigancho and San Martin districts and neighbouring city Callao.

The pipeline replacement is expected to be completed by 2014.
