Australia Unveils Irrigation Investment

Australia is to invest $1bn in upgrading irrigation systems in the state of Victoria to ease the water supply constraints of farmers.

The funding will help upgrade water systems in 7,600 properties, improving the state’s ageing infrastructure, which is causing leaks.

The replacement of irrigation systems is expected to save up to 200 million litres of water each year.

The funding will support the Murray River, which flows through the nation’s most important agricultural region, according to businessweek.com.
