Sri Lanka Seeks ADB Funding for Water Projects

Sri Lanka has sought $90m from the Asian Development Bank to help finance water supply and sanitation projects in the northern part of the country.

The Jaffna and Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project aims to rehabilitate, expand and develop the area’s water and sanitation infrastructure, strengthen water resource management and enhance the implementation and management capacity of key institutions.

The project will install 300,000 new water connections in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts and connect 20,000 Jaffna households to the sewer network.

The project will cost $164m, out of which a French agency has agreed to provide a loan of $48m, while the International Fund for Agricultural Development will fund $20m, according to colombopage.com.
