United Water to Build US Desalination Plant

Rockland County, New York, US, is to build a $116.4m desalination plant that will draw water from the Hudson River and supply it to Rockland customers.

Water utility United Water, a subsidiary of Suez Environment, was assigned to build a temporary facility to test different methods of treating the water ahead of building the water treatment plant.

The test plant will review water treatment methods over the next 18 months and a full-sized treatment plant capable of producing up to 7.5 million gallons a day of drinking water will be designed at a later date.

The water utility plans to build the plant in the Town of Haverstraw and is expected to be operational by December 2015, according to lohud.com.
