Construction Underway at Gaza Wastewater Treatment Plant

Construction has begun at a €48m ($63m) wastewater treatment plant in Beit Lahiya, in the northern Gaza Strip.

The plant is being constructed in two phases, with the first phase comprising the construction of a pumping station to transfer the sewage to nine infiltration basins to prevent human, environmental and health risks.

The second phase of the project will be completed within three years and includes the construction of a treatment plant with a capacity of 35,600m³ a day to meet the requirements of North Gaza’s 250,000 inhabitants.

The project was funded by World Bank, the European Union, Belgium, Sweden and France, which have donated €16m ($21m) to the project, according to maannews.net.
