Outotec Secures $92m Sri Lankan Water Contract

Outotec has secured a €70m ($92m) contract from Sri Lanka to build a water treatment plant to supply drinking water to the rural areas of the district of Ampara.

The contract awarded to the Finnish firm includes the design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of a water treatment plant and related pump stations, as well as equipment, transmission mains and distribution piping.

The project is being carried out under the Integrated Water Supply Scheme for the Unserved Areas of Ampara District – Phase III, representing the final phase of the project, which will supply water to 75% of the district.

Outotec had earlier completed two phases of the project in 1999 and 2002, with the third phase scheduled for completion in November 2013.
