US Unveils Funding for Mississippi River Basin Project

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is to fund 41 watersheds in 12 states as part of its Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative to protect the quality of water in the Mississippi River basin.

The USDA will extend $43m in financial assistance through conservation programmes to support 70 existing projects in the river basin.

The initiative will help landowners and farmers to protect and improve water quality in selected watersheds from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.

It will also enable voluntary conservation practices to avoid, control and trap potential pollutants to improve water quality throughout the selected watersheds.
