Sabesp Secures $223m Sanitation Contract

Brazil’s state-owned water utility Sabesp has signed a R$376m ($223m) renewal contract with the city of Ferraz de Vasconcelos to provide sanitation services for the next 30 years.

Under the contract, the water utility will ensure 100% sewage collection by 2018, with all of it being treated by 2019.

The contract also includes the reduction of water losses in its potable water supply system, according to bnamericas.com.

Currently, the sewage collection and treatment in the city is at 78% and 77%, respectively, and the project will benefit 195,000 residents.
