World Bank Funds Peruvian Water and Sanitation Project

The World Bank is to provide $30m of additional funding to the National Rural Water and Sanitation Program (PRONASAR) to expand the coverage and sustainability of water and sanitation services in rural areas of Peru.

The funding will provide clean water to 320,000 people in 200 communities through the expansion and repair of water supply systems.

The programme will cover the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of rural water and sanitation systems, provide on-site sanitation solutions and promote education on hygiene.

The funding will also be used for piping networks with home connections, public pools, protection of springs, wells and rainwater capture systems.

The total cost of the project is $50.9m, out of which $30m will be financed by the World Bank and the remaining $20.9m will be funded by Peru.
