Brazilian State to Begin Sanitation Project

Brazil’s Sau Paulo state is planning to start a R$164m (US$96m) project under the Reagua water recovery programme, which aims to improve sanitation services in 27 municipalities across the state.

The project will supply 3Mm³ of water a year by 2015 by controlling water losses, building a wastewater reuse system and starting a water use awareness programme.

The project involves installing 4,700 new sewerage connections, laying 118km of pipeline and building 17 wastewater treatment plants, according to waterworld.com.

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will fund 60% of the project while the Brazilian state will provide the remaining money.
