Saudi Arabia to Invest in Water Projects

Saudi Arabia is expected to invest $53bn in water projects over the next 15 years.

According to research by Frost & Sullivan, the water treatment market is expected to grow in the region as the region depends significantly on desalinated water.

The report says, of the total outlay, about 70% of this investment is expected to be earmarked for sewage and wastewater treatment plants.

The water and wastewater treatment equipment market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, comprising of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Republic of Yemen, is anticipated to grow at 13% post 2010.

UAE is expected to increase its desalination capacity by around 76% to 14.1 million cubic metres a day by 2016, according to constructiononline.com.

The research report states that the water and wastewater treatment equipment market in India is valued at $1bn.
