Columbia City to Launch Water Project

Columbia’s Cartagena de Indias city is planning to launch a 168bn peso ($87.5m) potable water project in 2011.

The project includes optimising water use of the Arroyo Tabacal reservoir, and increasing water extraction from the Arroyo Grande aquifer.

Work on the project includes building water networks and installing pumping stations.

The project will expand portable water services in the city’s northern area, where there is poor coverage, according to bnamericas.com.

The project will be completed in 2015, benefiting 285,000 inhabitants in the city.
