US City to Begin $359m Upgrade to Katrina-Damaged Sewers

The city of Biloxi in Mississippi, US, is to begin a $359m project to upgrade sewerage and water lines damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The project will overhaul more than one million feet of sewer and water lines damaged during the storm.

The US Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) will pay up to $347.5m for infrastructure repairs and up to $12m for establishing the right of way for drainage and utility lines.

The project is expected to take four years to complete, according to sunherald.com.
