Abu Dhabi to Build Artificial Aquifer

Abu Dhabi is planning to construct an artificial aquifer beneath sand at a cost of $436m.

The reservoir, to be built by Arabian Construction and Korean firm POSCO Engineering and Construction, will cover emergencies such as an oil spill contaminating seawater supplies for desalination.

The underground reservoir will be able to hold 26 million cubic metres of desalinated water.

The reservoir can provide three months of water for its residents in the event of an emergency, according to greenprophet.com.
