Brazilian City Starts $29m Sewer Project

A consortium comprising Brazilian engineering firms Aliter Construçoes e Saneamento and Enotec Engenharia has started work on a R$48m ($28.5m) sewer project in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The project is being carried out under phase III of Sao Paulo state’s Tiete River clean-up project and involves a 2.4km Juruce pipeline in Moema.

The pipeline will carry 540l of wastewater per second to the Pinheiros River interceptor and then on to the Barueri wastewater treatment plant.

The capacity will be expanded to 16m³ per second from 9.5m³ per second by the completion of Tiete phase III in 2016, according to bnamericas.com.

The project will benefit 17,000 residents in Itaim Bibi, Nova Conceiçao, Jardim Luzitania, Moema and Vila Olimpia.
