Pakistan Awarded $2bn to Build Sewage Plants

National Water Engineering (NWE) in Pakistan has secured $2bn in foreign investment to develop sewage treatment plants in the country through the Kyoto Protocol Act.

The company plans to set up 100 sewage treatment plants across Pakistan, particularly in the province of Sindh.

The company will establish treatment plants in Karachi, focusing on districts where only 10% of wastewater is treated and the rest is dumped into the sea, causing problems with the coastal eco-system.

NWE said the water treatment plants could save over 100 million gallons of potable water for domestic consumption, according to The Express Tribune.
