San Francisco to Upgrade Water Treatment Plant

The US city of San Francisco is to upgrade the Harry Tracy Water treatment plant at a cost of $174m to improve back-up water supplies to 11 cities.

A contract was awarded to US-based Kiewit Infrastructure West to make the treatment plant more seismically sound, improve treatment capacity and reliability, and make other improvements to the facility.

The project will also replace the 19 mile Crystal Springs Pipeline No 2 and widen the spillway of the Lower Crystal Springs Dam to restore the water storage capacity of North County’s reservoirs.

Construction is expected to start in March 2011 and will continue for four years, according to www.millbrae.patch.com.
