Jamaica Starts Work on Negril Water Treatment Plant

Jamaica has begun renovating the $278m Negril Waste Water Treatment plant to preserve the natural coastal environment and aquatic biodiversity of the Negril area.

The project is funded by a $243m grant from the European Union, with the remaining $35m provided by the Government of Jamaica through the National Water Commission.

The project involves raising and connecting the embankments of the stabilisation ponds, installing flow control devices, improving the outlet structure and the procurement of a jet evacuator truck.

The project will be managed by the National Water Commission of Jamaica and is expected to be completed within 12 months, according to www.jamaicaobserver.com.
