IDB and Spain to Fund Dominican Republic Water Projects

Spain and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are to provide $97m to fund water projects in the Dominican Republic.

The money will be used in five water projects to increase drinking water access in the country.

Out of the funding, $70m will be allocated to a multilateral decentralisation programme of services to improve water treatment and access to water in seven of the country’s 32 provinces.

The project’s funding includes $35m from the Spanish Government’s Potable Water Cooperation and Cleanup Fund and $35m from IDB.

The remaining money will be used for the Haiti-Dominican Republic Cross-Border Project, according to dominicantoday.com.
