Sabesp to Carry Out $2.5bn Water Projects

Sabesp, the water utility of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, is to invest $2.47bn in environmental clean-up and water loss control projects.

The projects include $1.9bn for phase IV of the Tiete River sanitation project, which will increase wastewater collection and treatment coverage in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area to 95% and 93%, respectively.

The water utility will also invest $572m in carrying out phase II of the state’s water loss control programme, which is expected to reduce losses to 13% by 2019.

Sabesp is negotiating with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for funding for the project, according to bnamericas.com.
