Welsh Water Signs Loan Agreement with EIB

UK-based Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has signed a £100m ($161m) loan agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund water and wastewater improvement schemes throughout Wales, UK.

The loan will help fund £250m ($404m) of projects, which are part of the firm’s £1.3bn ($2bn) investment programme for 2010-15.

Out of the total investment, £86m ($139m) will be spent on schemes to produce renewable energy from sewage sludge waste.

The company will also spend £103m ($166m) on improving the quality of drinking water at treatment works throughout Wales and £23m ($37m) on improvements to wastewater treatment works.

Approximately £22m ($35m) will be allocated to reducing leakage levels throughout the potable water network and £16m ($25m) will be spent on addressing water quality issues through improvements to the strategic trunk mains and distribution system.
