Bangladeshi City to Invest in Drinking Water Projects

The Chittagong Water and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) of Bangladesh is planning to invest around BDT30bn ($421m) by 2015 to provide safe water in the city of Chittagong.

The projects will provide 571 million litres of water per day to the city, meeting 98% of the total demand projected for 2015, reports The Financial Express.

The CWASA currently supplies 210 million litres of water a day to Chittagong, meeting around 42% of the 500 million litres required for the city.

CWASA is carrying out the Karnafuli Water Supply Project at a cost of BDT15.1bn ($206m) to supply 136 million litres of water a day with financial assistance of from the Bangladeshi Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

CWASA managing director AKM Fazlullah said it is implementing other projects with co-financing from Japan, Korea and the Bangladeshi Government.
