Uganda to Build Water-Treatment Plant

State-owned Ugandan water company National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is to build a new water treatment plant for UGX660bn ($271m) in Katosi, Nkokonjeru, to alleviate pressure on Ggaba’s water plants.

NWSC has an agreement with the French Government, the European Union and the Ugandan Government for a loan of UGX594bn ($244m). The German Government will provide a grant of UGX132bn ($54m).

Construction of the plant will start in 2012 and will be complete by 2015.

The plant is expected to pump 300 million litres of water per day, supplying water to Mukono, Lugazi and northern and eastern parts of Kampala.
