United Utilities to Build UK Wastewater Treatment Plant

United Utilities is to build a new wastewater treatment plant on the banks of the River Mersey in north-west England with an investment of £200m ($326m) to improve its water quality.

The work consists of draining the Wellington Dock and partially reclaiming it to construct a huge plant capable of handling 11,000l of wastewater.

The water from the new facility will supply homes and businesses from Crosby to Speke.

United Utilities will submit plans later this year for the new complex in Liverpool’s northern docklands, reports liverpooldailypost.co.uk.

Once the firm receives the necessary approvals, it will use the redundant Wellington Dock to build a new treatment facility based on successful plants in coastal cities such as Cardiff and Dublin.
