Costa Rica Needs $2.3bn to Improve Sanitation

The Republic of Costa Rica requires an investment of $2.36bn to improve water systems under its 2010-30 water and sanitation programme, according to national water and sewerage utility AyA.

AyA will provide $1.59bn to fund projects in the country, while districts and municipalities will provide $425m and $349m, respectively, reports bnamericas.com.

Projects under the programme include AyA’s San Jose metropolitan environmental programme, which involves the construction of the San Miguel intake and Los Tajos wastewater treatment plants.

AyA’s urban water system improvement programme and rural water system improvement plan will also be included in the 2010-30 water and sanitation programme.

The water system improvement programme will be funded by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.
