Ghana Launches Five-Year Water and Sanitation Project

A $75m water and sanitation development programme has been launched in Ghana’s Central Region, with the support of funds secured from the International Development Agency.

The five-year project will improve behavioural patterns regarding the use and access of safe water, and improve sanitation facilities in the region.

The project will also work towards the attainment of the development goals for water and sanitation in the country’s municipalities.

Central Region Minister Ama Benyiwa Doe said 13 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region will benefit from the project, and has requested the assemblies to strengthen their structures to enhance the development of their areas.

The project will provide 200 boreholes, eight small town pipe systems, eight limited mechanised water distribution systems and institutional Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pits, reports ghananewsagency.org.
